I would like to thank all of my supporters. According to the unofficial election night results I got 281 out of 2,691 votes cast (10.44%). These numbers are pending absentee ballots and the official recanvass.
Although 10.44% is the highest any Libertarian candidate has ever gotten in the Rochester area, it is tempered by the fact that there was no Republican. I suppose I should thank the Republicans for not bothering to run a faux candidate. Had I been up against a Democrat and a Republican, I would have found myself in the usual Libertarian position of receiving 1% of the vote. This further cements the fact that the Republican Party has gone the way of the Whigs in the City of Rochester, making the Libertarian Party the second party in Rochester's two party system.
This was my last campaign for the foreseeable future. For now I'm going back to trying to make money on my new books Hex Sudoku (sample) and WTF Sudoku (sample), which can also be played online. These are enhanced forms of Sudoku for those who have tired of the traditional 9x9 grid. Hex Sudoku uses hexadecimal digits (0-9,A-F) on a 16x16 grid and WTF Sudoku uses letters A-Y on a 25x25 grid.
Yesterday I stopped by Drew Beeman's website and noticed that he had a WXXI Candidate Free Air Time video posted. The funny thing is I never received an invitation. After viewing his video, the next on the playlist was my opponent Willie Lightfoot. My e-mail invitation must have gotten lost in the giant Internet bit bucket, so here's my response:
This website is the first Google search result for my name. It is third on the list for Bing and Yahoo. There are contact links at the top and on the side of this website. A graphical representation of my e-mail address (to hide it from spambots) is displayed along with links to sound files of me reading my address aloud. I'm not particularly hard to find.
When I ran for Commissioner of Schools in 2007 WXXI contacted me by good, old fashioned postal mail. Believe it or not real mail actually still works.
As you can see, we care equally about job creation, but disagree on how. Lightfoot, in true Democratic Party fashion, supports having the government create jobs. I, in true Libertarian Party fashion, support getting the government out of the way, so small business can thrive.
Lightfoot also claims that, "I do not believe the LDCs are being used properly. I see a need for change and we have consistenly requested change on the Democratic side of the isle." (typos in original)
This is why the Legislature needs Libertarians. We support transparency. We debate everything and you can bet your bottom dollar nothing will ever pass unanimously without debate.
